10 Creative Ways to Connect With Your Family at Thanksgiving
It’s hard to believe, but Thanksgiving is right around the corner! Where has the time gone? I’ll admit I’m usually a “jump straight to Christmas” type of girl because it’s my absolute FAVE; Christmas music in July anyone? This year though, I’ve felt the need to really slow down and savor the moments with my family. If I’ve learned nothing else it’s that time moves so fast. My sweet boys are growing up right before my eyes and I want to make the most of these years. Thanksgiving is fun in and of itself but there are so many things you can add to your day to make it more memorable. I’ve rounded up 10 ideas of fun activities to do with your family and friends on Thanksgiving Day! Let these ideas get your creative juices flowing; the possibilities are endless!
1. Play Board Games
Gather up everyone and play your favorite board game or better yet, make a marathon of it! In my house, we LOVE Chutes & Ladders and Count Your Chickens.
2. sing karaoke
Got any mini Michael Jacksons in your home like me? If so, a friendly game of Karaoke may be right up your alley!
3. organize a family cooking competition
Have a fun day of friendly competition by organizing a cooking contest. Winner takes home a Thanksgiving themed prize!
4. create a diy photobooth
Photo booths make everything more fun! Hang an old sheet on the wall and add in a bucket of festive props. The pictures will be sure to give you laughs for days and also serve as the sweetest keepsakes.
5. Make a Thanksgiving craft
We love crafts in my home and the Thanksgiving options are almost endless. Get some fresh air by gathering fallen leaves, acorns, twigs, etc. and make a beautiful crafted landscape.
6. Roast s’mores by the fire
I hope it’s cold wherever you are but regardless, a fire always makes things more cozy. Gather around it with your family and roast some s’mores!
7. volunteer
Volunteering is a great way to connect with your family and give back to your community. Local shelters, soup kitchens and first responders are great places to start.
8. create a family cookbook
You know your great grandmother’s famous pie recipe that you love? Make sure you never lose it by making a cookbook. Have everyone bring hole punched copies of their favorite Thanksgiving recipe and create cookbooks to take home!
9. play a game of bingo
Everyone loves Bingo! Play traditional bingo or create a more themed version for the special day. Either way, lots of fun will be had!
10. have a thanksgiving scavenger hunt
Get outside and walk off some of that Turkey! Scavenger hunts are so fun for kids and adults alike. Hide specific items or just use nature’s landmarks to create a game to remember!
